Amid the surging number of COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections across Pakistan, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan is quickly setting up cheap and easily accessible testing facilities for coronavirus as part of the Alkhidmat Diagnostic Labs Network. The primary purpose behind the establishment of these facilities is to provide immediate relief to the underprivileged segment of society which cannot afford to undergo expensive COVID-19 tests available at private hospitals and laboratories. The diagnostic test for coronavirus is available at Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan’s laboratory for just PKR 5,000 as compared to an average market rate of PKR 9,000 for a similar diagnosis.
The first coronavirus testing laboratory became operational in Lahore during the month of May and has the capacity to undertake diagnoses of up to 100 people every day. The lab has been established and is managed under the strict healthcare guidelines provided by international as well as local monitoring bodies. The COVID-19 testing kits being used at the laboratory have been acquired from international healthcare firms Roche and Qiagen. The results of the diagnostic tests are made available within 48 hours.
