Alkhidmat conducts computer and language exams for inmates in Karachi’s Central Jail
Alkhidmat Karachi recently conducted exams for prisoners taking courses in Computer Information Technology (CIT), English language, Chinese language and Computer Graphics at its Computer and Language Center in Karachi’s Central Jail. A total of 248 inmates took the exams for which they were given special registration cards and roll numbers. Present on the occasion were Director Community Services Alkhidmat Karachi Qazi Syed Sadruddin, Senior Manager Manzar Alam, RizwanEdhi,External Examiner Atif Sabir along with SSP Central Jail Abdul Kareem Abbasiand senior jail officerswho expressed their satisfaction at the arrangements. Speaking on the occasion, SSP Abbasi thanked Alkhidmat Karachi for the language and computer center in the jail which had been established with the intention to educate prisoners and impart skills to help them lead a respectable life after their jail terms. He disclosed that an increasing number of inmates were joining the center which was a sign of its success. Qazi Syed Sadruddin added that Alkhidmat Karachi was conducting these courses in jail for more than a decade. A new Arabic course was going to be added on the special request of the jail authorities. He said that since the center in the jail is affiliated to the Sindh Board of Technical Education, certificates would be awarded by the same Board. Lastly, he thanked the jail authorities for assisting Alkhidmat’s efforts for the inmates and hoped that these courses would benefit them. Apart from certificates awarded by the SBTE, successful prisoners can also have their sentences reduced by eight to ten months upon completing these courses successfully.
