Alkhidmat rushes aid for Balochistan flood victims
Alkhidmat Karachi has dispatched a truck laden with relief goods and provisions for the victims of torrential rains in Balochistan that have led to widespread floods claiming a large number of human lives and livestock, and destroying infrastructure and property. The truck left on Monday evening under the express directions and supervision of Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman in the presence of Naib Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Raja Arif Sultan and Executive Director Alkhidmat Karachi Rashid Qureshi. Provisions included tents, dry rations, rice, flour, cooking oil, canned food, cooked food, blankets, drinking water, clothes, footwear and other items. Manager Disaster Management Alkhidmat Karachi Sarfaraz Shaikh informed Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman of the relief operations in Lasbela district of Balochistan prompting Hafiz Naeem to reiterate his commitment to stand with the people of Balochistan in their hour of need and continue to provide relief efforts to the best of Alkhidmat’s ability. Hafiz Naeem also expressed his grief at the severe loss of life and destruction caused by the rains resulting in homeless victims spending their days and night shelter less under the skies. Lamenting the fact that the government had failed miserably in its responsibility of providing relief to victims of natural disasters, he pointed out that NGOs had been forced to take up this task although their resources were far less than the government’s. He also reminded that Alkhidmat had undertaken similar relief operations during past floods and earthquakes that had struck Balochistan, and its Disaster Management cell was also providing relief in Karachi during the rains. Executive Director Alkhidmat Karachi Rashid Qureshi said that this truck would carry provisions for the flood victims of Lasbela district in Balochistan where local officials of Alkhidmat would receive it and arrange the distribution among the victims. He said that apart from provisions, cash had also been sent to the affected area for assistance of the victims. He added that further relief would follow this first truck and dewatering pumps would also be dispatched to the area. Lastly, he reminded that Balochistan was in urgent need of dry rations, cooked food, water, medical and other assistance, and appealed to those with means to come forward and contribute to Alkhidmat’s relief efforts.
