Alkhidmat puts up more than 130 flood relief camps; huge relief operation underway

A huge rescue and relief operation is being conducted by Alkhidmat Karachi in the flood-hit areas of Pakistan. Initial truckloads of relief supplies have been dispatched to the most severe stricken regions of Sindh and Balochistan, and more aid packages are being prepared for dispatch. These supplies contain dry rations, cooked food, drinking water, clothes, tents, mosquito nets and other basic necessities for flood victims. Alkhidmat Karachi has put up more than 130 flood relief camps all over the city to collect donations from citizens for the flood victims in the country. Aid supplies collected at the camps will be sent to Alkhidmat’s head office where it will be sorted, packed and dispatched to the affected areas in Sindh and Balochistan. Citizens have answered Alkhidmat’s call in large numbers and are flocking to these camps to donate in cash and necessary provisions. Alkhidmat Karachi has set up a base camp in Sukkur for flood relief activities in the district and also established a big kitchen to supply cooked food to flood victims in the surrounding areas. Scores of volunteers are involved in supplying food and water to flood victims from this kitchen. Besides, cakes, biscuits and chocolates are also being handed out to children. Flood victims are also facing outbreaks of water-borne diseases and Alkhidmat has planned to set up medical camps in flood-hit areas soon. The operation is being supervised by Manager Disaster Management Alkhidmat Karachi Sarfaraz Shaikh, President Alkhidmat Sukkur Mamoon Rasheed and Vice-President Alkhidmat Sukkur Haris Masood. CEO Alkhidmat Karachi Naveed Ali Baig has said that the present crisis has overshadowed previous floods in its magnitude of destruction. Calling it a moment of trial, he reiterated Alkhidmat’s commitment to continue the relief operation which was already underway in the most severely hit areas and appealed to those with means to come forward at this difficult moment and donate generously and wholeheartedly to Alkhidmat’s flood relief activities.
