Alkhidmat working for prisoner welfare in city jails: Naveed Ali Baig

Alkhidmat Karachi has been working for prisoner welfare in Karachi’s jails for a long time, according to Naveed Ali Baig, CEO Alkhidmat Karachi. Among its initiatives were healthcare activities like free medical camps and hygiene kit distribution, provision of clean water, running a computer and English plus Chinese language center in jail, as well as paying legal fines to enable their early release. He disclosed that Alkhidmat regularly conducts free medical checkups of inmates in Karachi Central Jail and Malir Jail where free medicine is provided, and had even arranged for the fitting of an artificial leg to a prisoner. He added that many inmates were enrolled in computer courses as well as English and Chinese language courses in its institute in Central Jail. This initiative was intended to provide prisoners with the necessary life-skills to help them earn a respectable livelihood after their release. He said that Alkhidmat had also installed water chillers and dispensers at several jails and police stations. Where small payments were needed to release prisoners on minor charges, Alkhidmat arranges such sums to secure their freedom. Recently, Alkhidmat had also distributed hygiene kits comprising towels, toothpaste, soap and similar items to prisoners. He assured that Alkhidmat would continue to work for the welfare of prisoners in the future too and appealed to those with means to come forward and assist Alkhidmat in its efforts.
