Alkhidmat’s 4-day disaster relief training program for volunteers reaches conclusion

Alkhidmat Karachi’s 4-day rescue and relief training program for volunteers serving in disasters has reached its conclusion. The program was organized by Alkhidmat’s Disaster Management department and held at the Scouts Training Center in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Around 28 volunteers from Karachi and adjoining districts attended the training program in which professionals from Rescue 1122 participated as trainers. On conclusion of the program, a 12-member team was formed that will represent Alkhidmat Karachi in the National Rescue Challenge competition in Lahore. Participants learned various life-saving techniques during the program along with firefighting techniques, dead body management and moving injured victims of building collapses. Participants were also taught how to save people from drowning especially during natural disasters and emergency situations. Present at the conclusion of the event were Turkish NGO TIKA’s Country Coordinator Ibrahim Khaleel, Sindh Operation In-charge Rescue 1122 Saad Bhutto, Executive Director Alkhidmat Karachi Rashid Qureishi, Director Disaster Management Qazi Syed Sadruddin, Director Learning & Development, Yousuf Mohideen, Senior Manager Sarfaraz Sheikh, Emergency Life Support Trainer Rescue 1122 Sindh Rehana Yasmeen and other senior officials. Speaking on the occasion, Rashid Qureishi said that Alkhidmat intended to train its volunteers in the latest disaster management skills, which was the reason for the training program. Urging the participating volunteers to be always prepared for any eventuality, Qazi Syed Sadruddin said that Disaster Management was one of the oldest and best known department of Alkhidmat Karachi and the training program would enhance the skills of volunteers greatly. Appreciating Alkhidmat’s initiative in organizing the training program, Ibrahim Khaleel said that TIKA would participate in this program in the future. On his part, Yousuf Mohideen thanked the management of Rescue 1122 for sharing their trainers. At the conclusion of the event, certificates and awards were distributed among the participants of the program.
