Alkhidmat’s flood relief operation ongoing; students volunteer

Alkhidmat Karachi’s relief operation for flood victims in Sindh and Balochistan is ongoing with volunteers pouring in large numbers at the head office and assisting Alkhidmat in sorting, packing and dispatching relief supplies which are being collected at more than 150 relief camps set up across the city and sent to the central relief camp at Alkhidmat’s head office. Trucks laden with relief supplies which include dry rations, flour, canned food, biscuits, water bottles, tents, blankets, mosquito nets, medicine, clothes, footwear, cooking vessels and other necessities are being dispatched to the flood-hit areas every day. Citizens from all walks of life, including students and teachers from the city’s schools, colleges and universities are thronging to the central relief camp at Alkhidmat’s head office and registering as volunteers. Yesterday, students and teachers from Jamia Noman bin Saabit visited the camp and handed over their donation to CEO Alkhidmat Karachi Naveed Ali Baig. They were followed by students and teachers of the Inspiration Model School as well as the English Literature Department of Karachi University who went around the camp and witnessed the operations before putting in a shift of voluntary effort. Several delegations from the city’s organizations and corporate sector have been visiting the camp to see the relief work with their own eyes. Yesterday, Director Sultan Foods Salman Ahmed Butt visited the camp for the same purpose. Visitors have been overwhelmed at the massive scale of the relief operations and the way it is being managed. Recently, the first batch of 25 lifeboat rafts were received by Alkhidmat to be sent to those areas of Sindh and Balochistan that are still under water and cut off from land. CEO Naveed Ali Baig welcomed the students and teachers who had volunteered for the relief effort and praised their spirit and desire to serve their unfortunate brethren during the crisis. He reiterated Alkhidmat’s commitment to continue the operation until the very end and appealed to those with means to come forward and contribute wholeheartedly to Alkhidmat’s relief operation.
