Alkhidmat distributes certificates among 300 graduate inmate students at Karachi Central Jail

Alkhidmat Karachi distributed certificates among 300 inmate students who graduated from the Alkhidmat Computer Training and Language Center established at Karachi Central Jail. The certificate distribution ceremony was held inside Central Jail Karachi. The chief guest of the ceremony was Inspector General Prisons & Correction Services Sindh, Fida Hussain Mastoi, while CEO Alkhidmat Karachi, Naveed Ali Baig, also addressed the gathering. Among those present were DIG Jails Aslam Malik, SSP Central Jail Ghulam Murtaza, Chairman Sindh Technical Education Board Musharraf Ali, Executive Director Alkhidmat Karachi Rashid Qureshi, and Senior Manager Manzar Alam. Certificates were awarded to inmate students who completed courses in CIT (Certificate in Information Technology), Graphic Designing, English, Chinese, and Arabic languages. Alkhidmat awarded these certificates in affiliation with the Sindh Technical Board of Education. Addressing the ceremony, IG Prisons & Correction Services Sindh Fida Hussain Mastoi said that the primary responsibility of the police is to maintain law and order. Individuals are sent to jail only after due legal process, and the purpose of imprisonment is reformation, so that inmates may return to society as responsible and productive citizens after serving their sentences. He expressed regret that society often fails to accept former prisoners as normal citizens after their release. As a result, not only do former inmates face social rejection, but their families also suffer—losing respect, facing employment difficulties, and encountering social and marital challenges. Due to these pressures, many released prisoners fall into despair, leading either to suicide or a return to criminal activity. In such circumstances, institutions like Alkhidmat and the government play a critical role in rehabilitation. He said that inmates are being trained in computer and IT skills so they can make positive use of their talents after release. IT skills, in particular, enable individuals to earn through freelancing from home. He added that the aim is to equip inmates with skills that reduce dependency on traditional employment. Plans are underway to introduce courses in mobile repairing, solar technology, motorcycle mechanics, plumbing, and electrical work. Discussions are being held with various commercial and industrial associations to create employment opportunities for inmates after their release, ensuring a complete rehabilitation process and a return to normal life. Fida Hussain Mastoi further stated that the promotion of jail industries is also a priority, enabling inmates to earn daily wages and support their families financially while serving their sentences. Speaking on the occasion, CEO Alkhidmat Karachi Naveed Ali Baig said that the Alkhidmat Computer Training and Language Center has so far trained over 5,500 inmate students across five different disciplines. He emphasized that this initiative is not limited to jails alone—Alkhidmat is working across Karachi and throughout Pakistan to empower youth through IT education. He noted that a large number of young people discontinue education after matriculation or intermediate. With this concern in mind, Alkhidmat launched the “Bano Qabil” program two and a half years ago, aiming to equip youth with practical IT skills. In Bano Qabil 1.0, over 100,000 students registered, and Bano Qabil 4.0 has also been successfully completed. To date, more than 70,000 young people have become financially independent through this program and are supporting their families. Naveed Ali Baig further shared that the Bano Qabil program is now operational in 24 cities across Pakistan. He remarked that public perception about the police is often negative, but it is important to highlight and promote positive initiatives. He congratulated and thanked the jail administration for providing Alkhidmat with the opportunity to serve inmates through this meaningful initiative.
