Alkhidmat inaugurates 70th Water Filtration Plant in Model Colony

Under Alkhidmat Karachi’s WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) program, a water filtration plant was inaugurated in Model Colony. With this addition, Alkhidmat has now installed a total of 70 clean drinking water plants across the city. The plant was inaugurated by Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi General Secretary Taufiquddin Siddiqui. Also present were Ameer District Airport, Muhammad Ashraf, WASH Program Director, Gohar-ul-Islam, Manager, Saad Akbar, and other officials. A large number of local residents also attended the inaugural ceremony. While addressing the gathering, Taufiquddin Siddiqui expressed gratitude to Alkhidmat for installing four water filtration plants in Model Colony, which are providing clean and high-quality drinking water to residents. He said that Alkhidmat has so far installed 70 filtration plants in the city. In addition, more than 1,100 bore projects are operating in underserved areas, benefiting thousands of residents. Alkhidmat’s mobile water vans also provide clean drinking water at public places, government offices, and outside hospitals. He emphasized the importance of reusing water from household kitchens and mosque ablution areas instead of wasting it. This water can be repurposed for gardens, parks, and flower beds, or redirected into the ground through boreholes or wells to help replenish underground water levels. He stressed the need to raise awareness among mosque administrations and citizens regarding this issue. District Ameer Muhammad Ashraf said that Alkhidmat’s initiative to install water filtration plants is commendable. However, it is the responsibility of governments—not NGOs—to provide citizens with clean water, education, and healthcare. He praised Alkhidmat’s commitment to public service and expressed full support for its efforts. WASH Program Director Gohar-ul-Islam provided detailed information about Alkhidmat’s WASH initiative. He stated that Alkhidmat has its own water testing laboratory where samples are regularly tested and monitored for quality. He emphasized that Alkhidmat works in multiple sectors, and the provision of clean drinking water through the WASH program is a key component of its mission. By supplying clean and high-quality water, Alkhidmat aims to safeguard and improve public health. He concluded by appealing to philanthropists to support the expansion of such initiatives in the city.
