Alkhidmat is working for the welfare and rehabilitation of prisoners: CEO Naveed Ali Baig

CEO Alkhidmat Karachi, Naveed Ali Baig, stated that Alkhidmat, like across the country, is also working for the welfare and rehabilitation of prisoners in Karachi’s jails. He said that in collaboration with the jail administration, Alkhidmat has established a computer laboratory at Karachi Central Jail where prisoners are being provided computer education. In addition, language courses in Chinese, English, and Arabic are also being conducted for prisoners. Regular classes are held, and examinations are conducted for the participants. Upon successfully passing the exams, prisoners receive certificates from the Sindh Technical Board, which can also contribute to a reduction in their sentences. Naveed Ali Baig further stated that Alkhidmat also organizes medical camps in prisons to provide healthcare facilities to inmates. He added that Alkhidmat has been carrying out such welfare activities in prisons for several decades. Last year as well, hundreds of prisoners suffering from skin diseases were examined in medical camps held at Malir Jail and Karachi Central Jail, and free medicines were provided to them. In addition, a graduation ceremony was arranged for more than 200 prisoners who successfully completed computer and language courses, where certificates were distributed. He emphasized that by providing prisoners with computer and vocational skills during their incarceration, Alkhidmat aims to help them reintegrate into society and lead dignified lives after their release. Naveed Ali Baig also said that Alkhidmat facilitates the release of prisoners who are jailed for failing to pay minor fines, and many inmates have benefited from this initiative. He added that Alkhidmat has installed numerous clean water plants and water coolers in prisons and police stations. Providing hygiene kits and supporting the education of prisoners are also among Alkhidmat’s key initiatives. He appealed to philanthropists to support Alkhidmat’s prison welfare projects.
