Alkhidmat Karachi celebrates 50 Years of Service

Alkhidmat Karachi has officially entered its 50th year of humanitarian service. To mark this milestone, a special ceremony was held at Alkhidmat’s head office on Thursday, January 1, 2026 with Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, Monem Zafar Khan as the chief guest. The event was attended by CEO Alkhidmat Karachi Naveed Ali Baig, Executive Director Rashid Qureshi, directors of various programs, departmental heads, managers, and staff members. A cake was cut to celebrate the milestone, and Alkhidmat’s newly revealed anniversary logo was officially unveiled. Addressing the gathering, Monem Zafar Khan said that Alkhidmat began its journey in 1976 under the name Jamaat-e-Islami Service Committee, starting with the humble “Handful of Flour Scheme”, where young volunteers collected flour door to door and distributed it among the needy. He highlighted Alkhidmat’s role in serving communities during earthquakes, floods, the COVID-19 pandemic, and torrential rains, stating that wherever service is needed, Alkhidmat is always at the forefront. He paid tribute to the pioneers of the movement and expressed hope that Alkhidmat would continue to serve society with integrity, trust, and compassion in the years ahead. CEO Naveed Ali Baig recalled that after the flour scheme, in 1977, Jamaat-e-Islami founder Syed Abul A‘la Maududi (RA) inaugurated Alkhidmat’s first two funeral ambulances at Khaliqdina Hall. Today, Alkhidmat operates the largest funeral ambulance fleet in the country. He noted that what began with small initiatives has now expanded nationwide, with Alkhidmat serving across multiple sectors of life. He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to making the 50th year a landmark year, introducing new initiatives that have never been undertaken before. Executive Director Rashid Qureshi highlighted the contributions of former Alkhidmat presidents and secretaries, acknowledging their dedication and long-standing services to the organization.
