Alkhidmat Observes Natural Disaster Preparedness Day with Seminar and Awareness Walk at KU

Alkhidmat Karachi, in collaboration with the University of Karachi, organized a seminar at the university to mark Natural Disaster Preparedness Day. Experts at the event highlighted the growing risk of natural disasters in Pakistan and emphasized the importance of precautionary measures to minimize their effects. Addressing the seminar as chief guest, Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, said that due to climate change, Pakistan is experiencing increasingly severe natural disasters, and tackling them requires scientific research and public awareness. Other participants included Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Musarrat Jehan, Director of the Institute of Environmental Studies, Dr. Farrukh Nawaz, Student Advisor, Dr. Waqar Ahmed and Senior Manager, Alkhidmat Disaster Management, Sarfaraz Sheikh. Prof. Dr. Khalid Iraqi stated that the University of Karachi is committed to promoting responsible behavior in society through education and research. Speaking on the occasion, Executive Director, Alkhidmat Karachi, Rashid Qureshi, said that while natural disasters cannot be stopped, advancements in science and technology now allow us to receive early warnings about climate changes and earthquakes. This enables us to take preventive measures to minimize losses. He added that Alkhidmat has always played an exemplary role during disasters, and its Volunteer Management Department regularly conducts training sessions for volunteers. At the end of the event, souvenir shields were presented by Alkhidmat to Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Iraqi and other distinguished guests. The seminar concluded with an awareness walk aimed at promoting community preparedness and preventive measures to reduce the risks associated with natural disasters.
