Alkhidmat volunteers mobilizes volunteers to tackle urban flooding in city
Torrential rains in Karachi have submerged roads and paralyzed life in the city, causing severe difficulties for residents, pedestrians, and commuters. With the city facing urban flooding, Alkhidmat Karachi’s volunteers took to the streets to help residents caught in the crisis. Alkhidmat’s Disaster Management Cell and volunteers have been put in a state of alert across the city, helping to clear traffic jams, rescuing stranded vehicles and assisting citizens at several places including New MA Jinnah Road, Jail Chowrangi, University Road and surrounding areas. They also helped restart motorcycles stuck in the water. The rescue operations were supervised by Alkhidmat Karachi’s Executive Director, Rashid Qureshi. Speaking on the occasion, he said: “Right now, the city is facing an urban flooding situation. The Meteorological Department had already forecast heavy rains. As rainwater has accumulated on the roads, people have been trapped, and hundreds of vehicles, motorcycles, cars, and buses have been stranded. Alkhidmat volunteers have risen to the occasion and have come forward on the streets to help citizens out of this difficult situation.” He further added: “During heavy rains, Alkhidmat’s Disaster Management Cell is fully active, and volunteers have been instructed to assist citizens. We also urge residents to remain cautious during the rains and stay away from electrical appliances.”
