Alkhidmatestablishes Command & Control Center to tacklecyclone threat

Alkhidmat Karachi’s Disaster Management team has established a 24-hour Command and Control Center at its head office to coordinate its measures in the face of the threat posed by the cyclone Biparjoy, which is expected to unleashstrong winds, high rainfall and urban flooding in Karachicity and its coastal areas. Alkhidmat’s volunteer teams have been put on full alert and equipped with all disaster management tools to tackle any emergency arising due to the cyclone. A survey of Karachi’s coastal areas such as Ibrahim Hyderi, Redhi Goth and others has also been done and preventive steps have been reviewed. At Chashma Goth, rising waves have crossed onto the roads and nearby areas, causing seawater to enter houses in the vicinity. Alkhidmat’s teams have helped local fishermen to haul their boats onto land and fasten them in an orderly and safe manner, while taking stock of the situation from them. Later, Alkhidmat’s officials met with Chief Meteorologist SardarSarfaraz and discussed the situation with him, assuring him of their full cooperation in tackling any emergency that may arise due to the cyclone.SardarSarfaraz apprised the teams of the latest situation and informed them of the trajectory of the cyclone that is expected to hit the Indian coast of Jamnagar, Gujarat before turning towards the coast of Sindh. He advised citizens to take necessary preventive measures to protect themselves and their properties from the impact of the storm.
