Alkhidmat’s WASH Conducts Water Filtration Plant Operators’ Workshop

Alkhidmat Karachi’s WASH Program recently organized a Technical and Capacity Building
Workshop for its water filtration plant operators. During the workshop, the performance of plant operators was reviewed, and a special training session was conducted to enhance their service quality as well as their mental and physical capacities. Based on annual performance, cash awards and certificates were also distributed among the operators. The ceremony was presided over by Executive Director Alkhidmat Rashid Qureshi while Director WASH Program Gauhar-ul-Islam and Director Volunteer Program Yusuf Mohiuddin were also present. On this occasion, Engineer Sabir Ahmed conducted a training session titled “Journey to the Future”, in which he guided plant operators on key principles for aligning themselves with environmental and societal needs. Various interactive activities were also arranged for the operators, aimed at enhancing their mental and physical abilities. Umar Farooq conducted a technical session, providing useful information related to the maintenance and operational care of water filtration plants. Addressing the gathering, Executive Director Rashid Qureshi highlighted the progress and achievements of Alkhidmat’s WASH Program since its inception. He stated that former City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan dedicated his life to public service. Prior to holding office, he initiated water projects in Thar, where hundreds of wells were dug to address water scarcity. Under his leadership, water filtration plants were installed in Karachi with the cooperation of the Government of Japan. He further said that throughout this journey of service, hundreds of projects—including submersible pumps, hand pumps, and solar submersible pumps—have been successfully completed. Niamatullah Khan rendered exemplary services in the water sector, setting a lasting model of public welfare. Rashid Qureshi informed that currently 72 water filtration plants are operational across the city, providing clean drinking water to citizens at a highly subsidized rate of Rs. 1.50 per liter. Thousands of people benefit from this facility daily, and Alkhidmat is committed to expanding this service to more areas of the city. He also urged philanthropists to support Alkhidmat’s clean water initiatives. He emphasized that water filtration plant operators are ambassadors of Alkhidmat and should serve people with exemplary character and good conduct. He congratulated the best-performing operators on receiving cash prizes and certificates. Speaking on the occasion, Director WASH Program Gauhar-ul-Islam said that Alkhidmat’s plant operators are actively engaged in serving citizens. He stressed the importance of strengthening their relationship with the community through good manners and strong moral character.
